A Congressionally mandated report states: "The extensive body of scientific research now available consistently indicates that GULF WAR ILLNESS IS REAL." Gulf War victims suffer memory/concentration problems, headaches, unexplained fatigue, and widespread pain. They may also experience chronic digestive problems, respiratory pains, and skin rashes. But for 17 years government officials have stated that the 175,000+ suffering veterans, out of the 700,000 deployed, were simply victims of wartime stress. This "new-and-improved" panel said the two probable causes of Gulf War Illness were the pesticides and the pyridostigmine bromide (PB) troops received to thwart the effects of nerve gas. However, even though they openly admit that Gulf War troops "downwind" from demolitions have died from brain cancer at twice the rate of those who were not, "new-and-improved" panel members pointed out that there was little evidence saying DEPLETED URANIUM CAUSED GULF WAR ILLNESS. The fact that veterans repeatedly still find that their complaints are met with cynicism, panel member Dr. Roberta White said: "UPSETS ME AS A SCIENTIST, AS SOMEONE WHO CARES ABOUT VETERANS."
